I thought I had 4 days to write this – my first blog post. But knowing my track record, I better do it now. You see, I really really want to start blogging before 2009 officially hunts me down. I decided to do so because I know around this time last year I promised myself I’ll start blogging as soon as 2008 started. And a year before that, it was “I’ll start on Jan 1st, 2007”. So today, two years later, I’m giving myself a New Year’s present ahead of time and starting Elena’s Red Marker.
I owe a lot to Chris Brogan whose accurately written words often make me jump off my seat (and maybe even do a little dance). In his recent “Of Streams and Stopping Points”, Chris talked about the differences between the various social media tools out there and the varying nature of each. I’ve been on Facebook since the days it was only an .edu game. I’ve been on LinkedIn for quite a while. I recently joined Twitter and approached it in a very OCD manner. But I never had a blog. Or, to go back to Chris’s analogy – I never really had much of a stopping point. And to take it a step further – I never had content.
Excuses were always many and really easy to come by. There’s always someone ‘more knowledgeable’ or ‘better versed’ or ‘more worth reading’ and then there’s ‘not enough time’ or ‘too much work / play’. But this….holiday season…I’m giving myself the gift of Elena’s stopping point. We’ll see where the content takes us and whether this Red Marker becomes a valid stopping point in the perpetually flowing stream of ideas out there.
Thank you for reading and Happy Holidays!
